Class and Home WorkClasswork | Work Plan
In addition to teacher lessons, projects, and corresponding classwork, students will get a weekly work plan to be completed independently after required work is done. Students have choice on the order in which they complete their plan, but the work plan must be completed by Friday in order for the student to participate in any Fun Friday activities (last 20-30 minutes on Fridays). Once I get to know my students, I will tailor the work plan, if needed, to meet their needs (e.g. additional practice, skill improvement). Homework | Research and Special Projects Daily homework is given Monday-Thursday and due the next day. It includes spelling (5-10 minutes), math (15-20 minutes), and reading (15-20 minutes). Students should not spend more than 40-45 minutes doing homework. Like the work plans, I can make adjustments to their homework if/when needed.
Research and special projects will be given for homework occasionally but students will have multiple days to complete those assignments. Parent help and guidance is highly encouraged, but student should still do most of the work. Special projects include essays, Social Studies, and Science.
Homework Folder | Pencil Box
Students will place daily homework, school notices, graded work and tests in their homework folder. Please take time to talk to your son/daughter and ask them to reflect on the effort he/she put into the work, not just the score. Planner (provided by School) Students will write in their planner every day. It will tell you what we did for each subject and what the homework is (consistent for spelling, reading, math; varies for Social Studies and Science). Students will take planners home daily for parents to initial once they have completed their homework. There is a comments section for parent questions/concerns. I will write back with a response. Chapter Books Students need to have 2-3 chapter books with them at all times. 1-2 books can be kept in their cubbies to be read at school, while one book can be kept at home. This will prevent a student from forgetting the book at school or at home. I recommend that one book be non-fiction (biographies, informational, historical). We have a class library, but the town library will have more selection. |
